We recommend allowing a full day to experience everything the Australian War Memorial has to offer.

🚘 Parking

• 4 hour limits apply between 7.30am - 6.00pm (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays). If you need to stay longer, see the Front Desk for a temporary parking pass.
• Underground parking is available off Fairbairn Avenue; above-ground parking is available off Treloar Crescent.
• Coach parking is available on Treloar Crescent and behind Anzac Hall.
• A drop-off point is available near the main entrance.

🚍 Public transport

• Transport Canberra regularly services the Australian War Memorial on both weekday and weekends. Bus stops are located on Limestone Avenue. Special services also operate on Anzac Day.
• Catch Route 10 on weekdays / Catch Route 910 on Saturday and Sunday.

🚲 Bikes

• Bicycle racks are available near the Administration and C.E.W. Bean buildings.

Entry

Entry to the Memorial is free. Maps, brochures, and tour information are available at the Front Desk inside the main entrance. Wheelchairs and strollers are also available for free loan. Free cloaking facilities are also available; large bags cannot be taken into the Memorial for safety and security reasons.

Conditions of Entry

• For safety reasons, all bags (including small handbags and camera cases) must be presented for inspection, and all large items cloaked (including large handbags and backpacks).
• Photography and handheld video cameras are permitted, provided they are of a small size.
• The use of selfie sticks or tripods is not permitted.

Research Centre Reading Room

Open 10 am – 4.30 pm weekdays and 1 pm – 4.30 pm Saturdays.
Closed Sundays and ACT public holidays.

The Research Centre Reading Room is a dedicated facility within the Memorial where we provide research assistance and access to our archived collection material. Perfect for those wanting to research further into their family history.

The Discovery Zone

The Discovery Zone is an educational space for visiting school groups. It is open to the public between 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm on weekdays and all day during weekends, public holidays and ACT school holidays.

Accessibility and Safety

Assisted access

• Designated disabled parking is available in the underground and above ground car parks.
• Access from the underground car park to the main entrance is via a gradient ramp with handrails.
• The main stairs have handrails on both sides.
• The lift for disabled visitors is adjacent to the main entrance at the front of the Memorial.
• People with low mobility or using wheelchairs can navigate the Memorial via lifts and ramps.
• Please see our maps for the locations of disabled toilets, lifts and other facilities.

Lighting

• The lighting levels vary throughout the Memorial. Some exhibits have low lighting to protect the objects on display.
• Other parts of the Memorial, such as the Striking by night experience in Anzac Hall and the Conflicts 1945 to Today galleries, contain bright, flashing lights.

Carers Room

A carers room on the lower level provides private and comfortable seating along with changing and washing facilities.

The disabled toilets in Anzac Hall also have baby changing facilities.
